What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - Butamirate Pharmacotherapeutic group Central acting antitussive. Contents Syrup Butamirate dihydrogen citrate 15 mg/10 ml. Other ingredients: Fillers – sorbitol, saccharin, vanillin; preservative E210. Oral drops for children Butamirate dihydrogen citrate 5 mg/1 ml. Other ingredients: Fillers – sorbitol, saccharin, vanillin; preservative E210. Syrup and drops contain saccharin or sorbitol as sweeteners, therefore all these forms can be prescribed to patients with diabetes mellitus. Indications for use Acute cough of any etiology. Elimination of cough before and in the postoperative period after surgical interventions and bronchoscopy. Whooping cough. Method of administration and dosage Children's drops: for children aged 2 months to 1 year – 10 drops 4 times a day; 1-3 years – 15 drops 4 times a day; 3 years and older – 25 drops 4 times a day. Syrup: 3-6 years – 5 ml 3 times a day; 6-12 years – 10 ml 3 times a day; 12 years and adolescents – 15 ml 3 times a day; adults – 4 times a day. Whenever possible, drops and syrup should be taken before meals. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Side effects Rash, vomiting, dizziness (frequency less than 1%), which disappear upon reduction of the dose or discontinuation of the preparation. Interactions None identified. Overdose In case of accidental overdose, the following symptoms may occur: drowsiness, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, loss of balance, and hypotension. In case of overdose, activated charcoal, saline laxatives are prescribed, and measures to maintain the function of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems are carried out.
