What is it?
Sitagliptin Sitagliptin Normon contains the active substance sitagliptin, which belongs to a group of medicines called DPP-4 inhibitors (dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors), which lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medicine helps to increase the amount of insulin released after eating and reduces the amount of sugar produced by the body. The doctor prescribes the medicine to help lower high blood sugar levels due to type 2 diabetes. This medicine can be used alone or in combination with certain other medicines (insulin, metformin, sulfonylurea, or glitazone) that lower blood sugar levels and that the patient is taking to treat diabetes along with diet and exercise. What is type 2 diabetes mellitus? Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin and the insulin produced by the body does not work as it should. The body also produces a large amount of sugar. As a result, sugar (glucose) builds up in the blood. You must not take this medicine while breastfeeding or if you are planning to breastfeed. How to take Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist. The recommended dose is: • One 100 mg film-coated tablet; • Once a day; • For oral use. If you have kidney problems, your doctor may prescribe lower doses (such as 25 mg or 50 mg). This medicine can be taken with or without food and drink. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine alone or in combination with other certain medicines that lower blood sugar levels. Diet and exercise help the body to absorb blood sugar better. It is important to follow the diet and physical exercise recommended by your doctor while taking sitagliptin. Storage Keep out of reach of children. Do not take this medicine after the expiry date stated on the container, the expiry date refers to the last day of that month. This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
