What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - zinc pyrithionate Clinical-pharmacological group: Dermatology → Agents for scalp skin diseases → Preparations for the treatment of psoriasis and seborrhea of the scalp Composition Zinc pyrithionate 0.2% Pharmacological properties The activated zinc pyrithionate in the ointment has antimicrobial and antifungal action against the following microorganisms: Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus, and others. Its activity is particularly pronounced against Pytyrosporum ovale and Pytyrosporum orbiculare, which cause skin inflammation and scaling in psoriasis and other skin diseases. The special composition of the ointment has hydrating properties, enhances the antibacterial and antifungal action of zinc pyrithionate, and relieves burning and itching. The activated zinc pyrithionate in the ointment suppresses the pathological growth of the upper layers of the skin, thereby reducing excessive scaling in psoriasis, seborrhea, and other skin diseases. Indications In adults and children over 3 years of age – for the treatment of psoriasis, atopic dermatitis. For itching, inflammatory reactions, and skin dryness (the ointment has high hydrating properties). Also used under occlusive dressings for psoriasis plaques and infiltrations (in atopic dermatitis). Dosage and administration Apply to the affected skin 2 times a day. For psoriasis, treatment lasts for 1 month, for atopic dermatitis – 3-4 weeks. For other diseases, the ointment is used until complete disappearance of symptoms. Side effects The preparation is well tolerated. Allergic reactions are rarely observed. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to the components of the ointment.
