Terazosin................................................................10 mg Clinical-Pharmacological Group Alpha1-adrenoreceptor blocker, medication for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Indications - Benign prostatic hyperplasia; - Arterial hypertension (as monotherapy or in combination therapy); - Congestive heart failure (in combination therapy). Dosage Regimen For benign prostatic hyperplasia, the drug is prescribed at an initial dose of 1 mg once daily. The maintenance dose is 5-10 mg, and the maximum daily dose is 20 mg. Dose adjustment is not required for patients with renal insufficiency and elderly patients. For the treatment of arterial hypertension, the initial daily dose of the drug is 1 mg (at night). To avoid the "first-dose effect," the initial dose should not exceed 1 mg. The daily dose is increased gradually. It is recommended to double the dose at 1-week intervals until the maintenance dose of 1-5 mg once daily is reached. Tablets should be taken whole, without chewing, independently of food intake. Side Effects Cardiovascular system: At the beginning of treatment, the "first-dose effect" may develop. The above-mentioned condition manifests as a decrease in blood pressure, orthostatic hypotension up to syncope, which is observed in 1% of patients (immediately with rapid dose increase, as well as with combination with terazosin and diuretic or other antihypertensive drugs), usually accompanied by postural hypotension, tachycardia, and palpitations. CNS: Dizziness, headache, drowsiness, decreased vision. Gastrointestinal tract: Nausea. Miscellaneous: Asthenia, nasal congestion, peripheral edema, weight gain, impotence, hemodilution effects. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to terazosin or other alpha-adrenergic blocking agents. Pregnancy and Lactation During pregnancy, the drug is prescribed only when the expected benefit to the mother clearly outweighs the potential risk to the fetus and newborn. During lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
