What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - tobramycin Clinical-pharmacological group: Ophthalmology → Antibacterial agents for topical use → Antibiotics Clinical-pharmacological group: Antibacterial drug of the aminoglycoside group for topical use in ophthalmology. Composition and dosage form: Eye drops 0.3%: 5 ml in a vial 1 ml Tobramycin .............. 3 mg Preservatives: Benzalkonium chloride ........ 0.01% Neutral substance and distilled water. Eye ointment 0.3%: 3.5 g in a tube 1 g Tobramycin ................ 3 mg Contains 0.5% chlorobutanol, mineral oil, petrolatum base as preservatives. Indications: Ocular diseases caused by bacteria sensitive to the medication. The use of the preparation should be accompanied by appropriate monitoring of bacterial sensitivity. Clinical studies have confirmed that the use of tobramycin in children is safe and effective. Dosage and administration: Solution For mild to moderate disease - 1-2 drops in the affected eye (both eyes) every four hours. For severe infectious diseases, 2 drops every hour until the condition improves, after which the dose of the preparation should be gradually reduced until complete discontinuation. Ointment For mild to moderate disease, the ointment should be applied to the affected eye (both eyes) 2-3 times a day; For severe infectious disease, apply to the affected eye (both eyes) every 3-4 hours until the condition improves, after which the dose of the preparation should be gradually reduced until complete discontinuation. Ointment and drops can be used together. Side effects: The most common adverse reaction is local ocular hypersensitivity, manifested by eyelid hyperemia and edema, as well as conjunctival erythema. Similar reactions occur with the use of other aminoglycoside antibiotics. No other side effects are observed with the use of Tobrex. In addition to topical use, systemic administration of other aminoglycosides requires monitoring of their levels in blood plasma. Based on clinical studies, it was determined that Tobrex ophthalmic ointment causes side effects in a significantly smaller number of patients (3.7%) than gentamicin ophthalmic ointment (10.6%). Contraindications: * Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation. Pregnancy and lactation: Animal studies have not confirmed the teratogenic effect of the preparation. It is prescribed to pregnant women only when absolutely necessary.
