What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - diastase+papain+simethicone+charcoal+PP Instructions for Medical Use Unienzyme MPS Composition: Each sugar-coated tablet contains: Fungal diastase (1:800) 20 mg Papain USP 30 mg Simethicone USP 50 mg Activated charcoal BP 75 mg Nicotinamide BP 25 mg Indications: Symptomatic relief of digestive disorders characterized by dyspepsia, bloating, belching, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, or a feeling of abdominal fullness, for example, indigestion. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to any of the components. Activated charcoal is contraindicated when specific antidotes (methionine) are used. Nicotinic acid is contraindicated in liver dysfunction and active peptic ulcer. Precautions Caution is advised during pregnancy and lactation. Activated charcoal may cause black discoloration of fecal matter. Activated charcoal reduces the effect of ipecacuanha and other emetics when taken concurrently orally. Activated charcoal has the potential to reduce the absorption of many drugs from the gastrointestinal tract and therefore concomitant oral treatment should be avoided. For this reason, the preparation should be administered 2 hours before or 1 hour after taking other medications. Large doses of nicotinamide should not be administered to patients with a history of jaundice, liver disease or diabetes mellitus, gout or impaired liver function. There may be an increased risk of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis when nicotinic acid is used concurrently with statins. This may increase the requirement for insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents. Adverse Reactions: Allergic/hypersensitivity or idiosyncratic reactions may occur. High doses of nicotinic acid have been associated with flushing, itching, gastrointestinal distress, activation of peptic ulcer, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, feeling of warmth, skin rash, dry itchy skin, tingling, hypotension, transient headache, ventricular fibrillation and other cardiac arrhythmias, reduced glucose tolerance. However, these effects are transient and may disappear upon discontinuation of treatment. Dosage and Administration One tablet daily or as prescribed by a physician Overdosage and Treatment Cases of overdosage associated with the use of Unienzyme MPS. In case of overdosage, supportive and symptomatic treatment is indicated.
