What is it?
Name - Vefoxan Indications Vefoxan is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections caused by phosphomycin-susceptible pathogens. It is also used for the prophylaxis of urinary tract infections, including lower urinary tract infections, in diagnostic and surgical interventions in adult men and women. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to phosphomycin. Severe renal insufficiency with creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min. Under 12 years of age Dosage/Frequency and Duration of Administration: Vefoxan is used as a single dose (3g) for uncomplicated urinary tract infections. The recommended prophylactic dose of Vefoxan is 2 sachets (2 x 3g) before diagnostic and surgical interventions for urinary tract infections, including lower urinary tract infections, in adult men and women. The first dose should be taken 3 hours before surgery, and the second dose 24 hours after surgery. Pregnancy and Lactation If Vefoxan is considered necessary, its use during pregnancy may be evaluated. Limited data on the effects of pregnancy do not indicate that phosphomycin has an adverse effect on pregnancy or the health of the fetus/newborn. Breastfeeding - Phosphomycin can be used during lactation as a single oral dose. Side Effects After a single dose of phosphomycin trometamol, diarrhea from the gastrointestinal tract rarely occurs; these events usually do not require treatment and resolve on their own
