What is it?
Composition and Dosage Form: Ointment: 50 g tube Viper venom ........... 0.05 g Salicylic acid ............. 10 mg Camphor ......................... 30 mg Turpentine in an emulsified ointment base 30 mg Excipients: Hard paraffin, petrolatum, glycerin, sodium cetostearyl sulfate, cetostearyl alcohol, sodium chloride, and purified water. Pharmacological Properties: The main active ingredient of the preparation is common viper venom, which contains histamine, hyaluronidase, and other active substances. It also contains specific peptides that cause hemolysis. They increase capillary permeability and affect blood clotting. When viper venom is applied locally, it has an irritating and analgesic effect. The preparation also contains substances that irritate sensitive nerve endings, causing irritating and analgesic effects. Local skin irritation causes changes in blood supply and selective reduction of trophic support to internal organs innervated by the same spinal cord segments. Additional irritation causes additional stimulation of the antinociceptive system in the corresponding spinal cord segment, which inhibits the afferent transmission of primary pain impulses to the cerebral cortex and prevents pain perception. Salicylic acid, camphor, and turpentine also have analgesic and antiseptic properties, while salicylic acid additionally has keratolytic action. Indications: The preparation is used as an analgesic and local irritant for muscle and joint pain. Dosage and Administration: Depending on the size of the skin surface, apply a small amount of ointment (5-10 g or 1-2 tablespoons) to the painful area once a day until pain subsides. The duration of treatment depends on the nature and duration of the disease. Side Effects: Itching, swelling, and urticaria may occur. These symptoms disappear upon discontinuation of the preparation. To avoid side effects, apply a small amount of ointment to the skin before starting treatment to determine sensitivity. Contraindications: * The preparation is not recommended for use in case of hypersensitivity to any of its components. Also, * In the presence of skin ulcers and other diseases; * Acute pulmonary tuberculosis; * Disorders of cerebral and coronary circulation, predisposition to angiospasm; * Severe impairment of liver and kidney function.
