What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - Acyclovirum Dosage Form: Ophthalmic Ointment Composition per 1 g: Active substance: Acyclovir - 0.03 g; Excipients: White soft paraffin (Vaseline). Description. Ointment white or white with a yellowish tint, or yellow in color. Pharmacotherapeutic Group. Antiviral agent. Indications for Use Herpetic keratitis caused by Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to acyclovir or valacyclovir. Lactation period. Use during pregnancy and lactation The drug can be used during pregnancy if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus. The drug appears in breast milk after entering the mother's systemic circulation, so breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment. Method of Administration and Dosage Topically. For adults and children Apply a 1 cm strip of ophthalmic ointment to the lower conjunctival sac 5 times a day (every 4 hours) until healing. Treatment continues for another 3 days after healing. Side Effects Side effects are listed according to the frequency of occurrence during clinical trials: Very common - more than 10%; Common - more than 1% and less than 10%; Uncommon - more than 0.1% and less than 1%; Rare - more than 0.01% and less than 0.1%; Very rare - less than 0.01%. Allergic reactions: Very rare - immediate hypersensitivity reactions (including angioneurotic edema). Organ of vision: Uncommon - punctate superficial keratitis (does not require discontinuation of treatment and resolves without consequences); Common - mild burning (which subsides over time); Uncommon - conjunctivitis; Rare - blepharitis.
