What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name: Taurine Chemical Name: 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid Dosage Form: Eye drops. Description: Colorless, transparent solution. Composition: 1 ml of the preparation contains: Active substance: Taurine 0.04 g Excipients: Methylparahydroxybenzoate, Sodium hydroxide, Purified water ATC code of the preparation: S01XA21 Pharmacotherapeutic group: Preparations for the treatment of eye pathologies. Preparations regulating metabolic processes. Indications for use: - Dystrophic changes of the retina; - Congenital tapetoretinal degeneration of the eye; - Corneal dystrophy and injuries (to stimulate reparative processes); - Cataracts of various origins (senile, diabetic, traumatic, and radiation); - Glaucoma (enhances the action of timolol). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to taurine. Side effects: Possible: Allergic reactions. Method of administration and dosage: For topical use only. BESTOXOL eye drops are instilled into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye, 2 drops 3-4 times a day, unless a different dosage regimen is prescribed by the doctor. For cataracts – used as instillations of 2-3 drops 2-4 times daily for 3 months. The course is repeated with a one-month interval. For injuries – used in the same dose for one month. For glaucoma – used as instillations twice a day, 20-30 minutes before instillation of timolol. For tapetoretinal abiotrophies and other dystrophic diseases of the retina, penetrating corneal wounds – administered subconjunctivally, 0.3 ml of a 4% solution once a day for 10 days. The course of treatment is repeated after 6-8 months. Use in pediatrics, during pregnancy and lactation: There is no experience with the use of the preparation during pregnancy and lactation, as well as in children. The preparation can be used only as prescribed by the attending physician, if the expected therapeutic effect outweighs the possible risk of side effects. Dosage form: BESTOXOL eye drops in a 10 ml plastic bottle with a dropper and a screw-on protective ring. The bottle is placed in a cardboard box with instructions for use. Storage conditions: Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C, protected from light, in a place inaccessible to children.
