Properties
What is it?
Active Ingredient: Ammonium sulfoichthyolicum Therapeutic Properties: Exhibits local anti-inflammatory, analgesic, keratoplastic (promotes epithelization, tissue regeneration) and slightly antiseptic effects; at high concentrations – keratolytic effect. Composition and Dosage Form: Available as: Ichthyol ointment 10% and 20% in 25 g; Ichthyol solution 1.0% and 2.0%; Ichthyol suppositories 0.2 g. Ichthyol contains a significant amount of organically bound sulfur in the form of thiophene homologues. Indications: Ichthyol is used topically: For the treatment of various skin diseases (furunculosis, burns, eczema, psoriasis, erysipelas, etc.). Ichthyol is prescribed as 5–30% Ichthyol ointment or baths (10–30% aqueous-alcoholic solution); For inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs (parametritis, metritis, salpingitis, oophoritis, prostatitis), Ichthyol suppositories (0.1–0.2 g) and tampons soaked in 10% Ichthyol solution are used. Instructions for Use: Ichthyol is used as 10–20% Ichthyol ointment, 10–30% aqueous-alcoholic solution for baths, suppositories, and 10% Ichthyol solution with glycerin for soaking tampons or as an addition to whipped mixtures. Ichthyol suppositories are an anti-inflammatory agent for local use, prescribed for inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs. A 1–5% whipped mixture with Ichthyol calms superficial inflammatory processes and reduces subjective discomfort. Ichthyol ointment is used in inpatient settings as a reducing agent and in the regressive stage of psoriasis. The ointment causes reflex dilation of skin blood vessels. The resulting active hyperemia promotes the absorption of infiltrates, thereby resolving chronic inflammatory processes. A 1–2% aqueous solution of Ichthyol is used in baths for various dermatoses, acute eczema, and other lesions. A 1% aqueous solution of Ichthyol is used for electrophoresis for rapid absorption of chronic infiltrates and hypertrophic scars. At higher concentrations (10% and above), Ichthyol preparations act keratolytic, promoting softening and removal of the keratinized layer. Ichthyol in pure form is used for the treatment of furunculosis. Pregnancy and Lactation: No data available. Special Instructions: When using Ichthyol, it should be noted that its solutions are incompatible with alkaloids, heavy metal salts, and iodine-containing salts. Storage Conditions and Expiry Date: Store in a cool place.
