In hyperthyroidism, Euthyrox is used in combination therapy with thyrostatics until a euthyroid state is achieved. In all cases, the duration of treatment is determined by the doctor. See blog: Euthyrox - a preparation for the treatment of thyroid diseases Dosage and administration The daily dose of the preparation is selected individually according to the indications. The entire daily dose is taken in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before meals, with a small amount of liquid. The tablet should not be chewed. Infants are given the daily dose of Euthyrox once, 30 minutes before feeding, after dissolving the preparation in a small amount of water until a homogeneous mass is obtained. This preparation should be prepared for infants immediately before administration, and then the infant should be given a small amount of water. Side effects When Euthyrox is taken correctly, under the supervision of a doctor, side effects are not observed. In case of intolerance to large doses or overdose of the preparation, symptoms characteristic of hyperthyroidism may develop: increased heart rate, heart rhythm disturbances, tremor, inner restlessness, insomnia, excessive sweating, weight loss, diarrhea. In this case, after consulting a doctor, it is necessary to reduce the daily dose or temporarily discontinue the preparation. After the disappearance of side effects, it is necessary to resume treatment with lower doses of the preparation. In case of thyroid hypofunction caused by pituitary damage, it is necessary to investigate whether adrenal insufficiency is also present. In this case, it should be treated with thyroid hormones before starting therapy. Contraindications Untreated hyperthyroidism. Pregnancy and lactation During pregnancy, the administration of the preparation, if prescribed for the treatment of hypothyroidism, should be continued. During pregnancy, the administration of the preparation in combination with thyrostatic agents is contraindicated, as it can cause thyroid dysfunction in the fetus. During lactation, the preparation should be used with caution. Special instructions The preparation is prescribed with caution to patients with cardiovascular diseases, including angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, and arterial hypertension. The use of the preparation in patients with diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, or adrenal cortical insufficiency may exacerbate the symptoms of these diseases. During this period, it is necessary to carefully select medications for the treatment of the above-mentioned diseases. Interactions with other drugs Levothyroxine may enhance the effect of anticoagulants (coumarin derivatives) and may also reduce the effectiveness of hypoglycemic agents. Simultaneous treatment with levothyroxine and the above-mentioned preparations requires monitoring of blood coagulation parameters and blood glucose levels. Cholestyramine slows down the absorption of levothyroxine, so Euthyrox should be taken 4-5 hours before taking cholestyramine. Rapid intravenous administration of phenytoin may increase the level of free levothyroxine in blood plasma and may cause heart rhythm disturbances. Salicylates, dicoumarol, high doses of furosemide (250 mg), clofibrate may enhance the effect of Euthyrox. Storage conditions and shelf life Keep out of reach of children, not exceeding 25°C. The expiration date is indicated on the packaging. The preparation must not be used after the expiration date. Dispensing from pharmacy By prescription only.
