What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - naphazoline, chlorpheniramine Clinical-pharmacological group: Ophthalmology → Antiallergic agents for topical use in ophthalmology Dosage Form Eye/Nasal Drops Composition 1 ml of Nozilin preparation contains: Active substances: Naphazoline hydrochloride 0.5 mg Chlorpheniramine maleate 0.5 mg Excipients: Sodium citrate, boric acid, benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate, water for injection. Pharmacotherapeutic group α2-adrenomimetic agent. H1-histamine receptor blocker. Vasoconstrictor and antihistamine agent. Pharmacological Properties Combined preparation for topical use in ophthalmology and ENT practice. It has a long-lasting vasoconstrictive and antiallergic effect, reduces local exudative manifestations, swelling and hyperemia of the mucous membranes of the nose, nasopharynx, and paranasal sinuses, reduces runny nose, sneezing, tearing, itching of the eyes and nose. Indications for Use Nozilin is used: - In rhinitis (acute, allergic, vasomotor), sinusitis, eustachitis; - For stopping nosebleeds (as a vasoconstrictor) and facilitating rhinoscopy; - In allergic eye diseases; - In asthenopia (accommodation disorder with visual strain); Contraindications The preparation is contraindicated: - Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation; - Arterial hypertension; - Hyperthyroidism; - Angle-closure glaucoma; - Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors, as well as within 14 days after their discontinuation; Nozilin is contraindicated in children under 2 years of age. Special Instructions The preparation is intended for topical use only. Since temporary visual impairment may occur after instillation of the preparation, Nozilin should be used with caution when driving and operating complex machinery. When using contact lenses, they must be removed before instillation, after which the lenses can be reinserted only 15-20 minutes after instillation of the preparation. Side Effects Local reactions: tearing, with prolonged use – swelling of the nasal mucosa. Systemic reactions: dizziness, headache, nausea, weakness, drowsiness. Dosage and Administration Eyes: In children aged 2 to 6 years, one drop 3 times a day; In children over 6 years of age and adults, 1-2 drops every 3-6 hours; Nose: In children aged 2 to 6 years, one drop 3 times a day; In children over 6 years of age and adults, 2 drops 4 times a day. Overdose The risk of overdose arises in case of ingestion of the preparation (especially in young children) and is manifested by the following symptoms: drowsiness, decreased body temperature, slowed heart rate. Interaction with Other Drugs Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors can cause arterial hypertension due to the release of catecholamines deposited as a result of naphazoline's action. In addition, the metabolism of chlorpheniramine in the liver is slowed down when taken with MAO inhibitors, which can lead to an increase in its effect. Use During Pregnancy and Lactation Adequate and well-controlled clinical studies in pregnant women have not been conducted. Therefore, the administration of Nozilin during pregnancy is justified only when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the expected risk to the fetus. Nozilin is administered with caution during lactation.
