- International Name: Rifamycin Dosage Form: Ear drops Composition and Quantitative Content in 100 ml Active Substances: Sodium Rifamycin - 2.6g, equivalent to 2,000,000 IU Other Components: Macrogol 400, Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Edetate, Potassium Metabisulfite, Lithium Hydroxide, Purified Water Description: Reddish-orange transparent liquid Pharmacotherapeutic Group: Antibiotic of the Rifamycin group Pharmacological Properties: Antibiotic of the Rifamycin group for local use in otolaryngology. The mechanism of action of Rifamycin is due to the formation of a stable complex with DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, which inhibits bacterial growth. It is active against almost all Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria that cause infectious and inflammatory diseases of the middle ear. Indications: Acute external otitis; exacerbation of chronic otitis media (even with persistent perforation of the eardrum); post-operative conditions after middle ear surgery. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Rifamycin; caution is required during pregnancy. Method of Administration and Dosage: Adults: 5 drops in each ear 3 times a day or the preparation is instilled into the ear for a few minutes twice a day. The preparation can be used to irrigate the tympanic cavity through an active cannula. Children: 3 drops in each ear 3 times a day or the preparation is instilled into the ear for a few minutes twice a day. Duration of treatment – not more than 7 days. Before using ear drops, it is recommended to warm the vial in your hands to avoid unpleasant sensations caused by instilling cold liquid into the ear. Side Effects: Local reactions: discoloration of the eardrum (visible during otoscopy). Rarely, skin allergic reactions. Overdose: Due to low absorption of the preparation into the bloodstream, overdose is unlikely to develop. Special Instructions: Avoid contact of the preparation with clothing, as it leaves stains. Dosage Form: Ear drops in a yellow glass vial with a capacity of 10ml, complete with a dropper, placed in a cardboard box with instructions for use.
